Stay connected with the Harriet Tubman Freedom Park.
Below you’ll find updates on our recent events, new programming, and our ongoing work within the community.
On May 16, 2026, the Harriet Tubman Freedom Park (HTFP) proudly hosted the first free People’s Concert: “Spring into Action!”
The afternoon featured powerful performances by Macey O Maze, Paul Willis with a dance break led by the Rhythm Riders and a closing performance by Michael Christmas. These performances proved that our local cultural figures are actively fostering revolutionary values that seek justice and build joy within our neighborhoods.
The “People’s Concert” celebrated this historic victory through shared food, inspiring performances, and intentional time with the community.
This is a public, people’s park, so we invite everyone to reclaim it for community gatherings, mindfulness walks, creative events, and more! Plug into our calendar for future events and use the form below to propose a collaboration with the HTFP.

Spring into Action!

This ribbon cutting ceremony commemorated years of tireless grassroots organizing to reclaim an abandoned city lot and transform it into the vibrant community haven we see today.
Over 200 neighbors collectively elected to create a multi-purpose space to celebrate, perform, and play in a green sanctuary in Roxbury completely free from a looming police presence.
This is a space the community united around and fought for. It is a place where we can come together, bridge divisions in our communities, enjoy each other’s company, and reclaim our collective power to fight for a better world.
Take a moment to reflect: How many abandoned lots or unclaimed properties do you pass on your daily commute? What would you build there if the land belonged to the people?
Thank you to the volunteers who sustain the park, our architect Heather Heimark Design and landscaping team known as Jon Bullock Design for designing and installing the park. Thank you to the Community Preservation Act and the Mayor’s Office of Housing Grassroots Funding programs for their generous contributions that helped make this park a reality.
We are indebted to the freedom fighters who follow the leadership of Harriet Tubman. They not only stewarded the Harriet Tubman House when it was operational, but continue to inspire many of us to fight for dignified conditions for BIPOC and working-class people.
